CPS announced 54 school closings, 11 school co-locations and six school turnarounds, estimating approximately 30,000 students would be impacted by these actions. The new research indicates these numbers greatly underrepresent the impacts of the proposed reforms in terms of numbers of both schools and students impacted.
According to the research, the total of students enrolled in affected schools is 47,490, with 7,175 disabled students and 38,326 African-American students in that total. The research indicates 27% of all African-American children living in the city of Chicago will be impacted.
