Endorsements

Students in the MEd Language, Literacies and Learning program may be eligible to pursue the following endorsements as part of their coursework.

Bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsements

The Bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsements are for undergraduate or graduate students who are pursuing, or who have earned, an Illinois Professional Educator License. The endorsements enable students to teach in a Bilingual and/or English as a Second Language setting.

Middle School Endorsement

The College of Education offers courses that lead to a Middle School Endorsement for current undergraduate and graduate students in licensure programs.

Reading Teacher Endorsement

This endorsement is open to both those pursuing licensure and those already with a Professional Educator License, to be qualified as a subject-level expert in reading.  The endorsement applies to the grade levels a teacher is licensed for.

Reading Specialist Endorsement

This endorsement is only open to currently licensed teachers with at least two years’ teaching experience.  The endorsement qualifies teachers as deep experts across all facets of reading, including with children with special education needs.
