Early Childhood Special Education is a field growing by leaps and bounds. Research has demonstrated its effectiveness and programs are blossoming. At the University of Illinois at Chicago, the Department of Special Education offers an opportunity for certified teachers who hold an Illinois Early Childhood (Type 04) certificate or an Illinois Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS I) certificate to earn an Early Childhood Special Education Approval.
This approval qualifies teachers with a Type 04 certificate to teach children with disabilities from birth through 5 years of age and qualifies teachers with an LBS I certificate to teach children with special needs ages 3 through 5.

The Blended Program in Early Childhood/Special Education graduates candidates who are equipped to teach children with and without disabilities from birth to age 8
