George Karabatsos, Associate Professor [learn more] [contact] My main research interests is to develop and apply contemporary statistical methods, for the purposes of improving the accuracy of conclusions in data analysis. My areas of interest include Bayesian decision theory and rational decision-making, Bayesian nonparametric and parametric inference, hierarchical modeling, item-response modeling, and cognitive modeling. Eleni Katsarou, Clinical Associate Professor and Director of Elementary Education [learn more] [contact] Dr. Katsarou's primary teaching responsibilities include university and field instruction and assignment of students in Chicago Public Schools sites/fieldwork placements, including courses in literacy and literacy instruction. Her primary research interest is (pre-service) teacher education and working with cooperating teachers in urban settings. |
Lena Licon Khisty, Associate Professor [learn more] [contact] Dr. Khisty integrates two research areas: Bilingual/ESL Education and Mathematics Education. She teaches courses in both areas. Her research is dedicated to improving the mathematics education of Latinas/os in urban contexts. She is specifically interested in contextual factors -- such as teachers' discourse in mathematics with Latinas/os, issues of multilgualism in mathematics instruction and curriculum, and the politics of classroom processes -- that affect Latinas/os' education. She also is Director and Lead PI for the UIC site of the Center for the Mathematics Education of Latino/as (CEMELA). |

Kevin Kumashiro, Department Chair [learn more] [contact] Dr. Kumashiro researches approaches to teaching and teacher education that challenge different forms of oppression in schools and society, and is currently examining the politics of contemporary education policy initiatives. He has authored or edited six books and is the founder and director of the independent Center for Anti-Oppressive Education. |
