Mandatory Elementary Education (B.A. and M.Ed.) Fieldwork and Student Teaching Orientation - Session #2
This session is for students who could not make the August 22nd orientation session. If you attended the August 22nd session you do not need to attend this one. The undergraduate and graduate programs in Elementary Education will be holding a mandatory orientation for any student in either program who will be student teaching or have fieldwork in the 2008 academic year. This orientation will take place on Wednesday, September 3rd at 4:30 p.m. in room 2233 in EPASW (1040 W. Harrison). Please sign up for this orientation here. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship
Fifteen $2,000 undergraduate scholarships, five $5,000 graduate fellowships, and five $5,000 professional fellowships will be awarded for the 2008 - 2009 academic year. Selection will be based on academic record, personal statement, recommendations, and demonstrated commitment to community/campus service. Scholarships will be awarded based on the

Over sixty scholarships are available to currently enrolled UIC students ranging in value from $500 to $5,000. Awards cover a wide variety of majors and also include recognition for academic achievement, campus and community involvement, and financial need. You can apply online at www.uic.edu/orgs/scholar, or pick up application information at The Office of Special Scholarship Programs in 2506 University Hall, or from award contacts in departments and colleges. Most applications are due on February 15, 2008.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund Applications now Available
Scholarship applications for the 2008-2009 academic year are now available online at WWW.HSF.NET . Last year, HSF awarded nearly 4200 scholarships and over $26.5 million to high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate level college students. The online application must be completed and all requested materials must be postmarked and sent to HSF by the deadlines listed on the website. The deadline for most scholarships is MARCH 15, 2008.

Graduate Research Forum
Students who would like to submit a poster or research presentation at the spring Graduate Research Forum should prepare for the upcoming conference. Faculty may use the Forum as a venue to encourage students to develop research projects and provide opportunities for students to prepare for graduate or professional school enrollment.
We are pleased to announce the African American & Latino Research Forum. This event, cosponsored by the Illinois African American and Latino Higher Education Alliance (IALHEA), will be held in the spring semester 2008. The forums were created to showcase the scholarly work of African American and Latino students from Illinois universities. African-American and Latino undergraduate and graduate students from all majors are invited to submit abstracts or papers. Center for Literacy Grad Appointment
The UIC Center for Literacy has an opening for a 50% Spring Graduate Assistant (January 2008) in our Family Start Learning Center program located at 10 S. Kedzie. Responsibilities include teaching GED Preparation/Basic Skills classes for Head Start parents; conducting family literacy workshops, and assisting with family literacy special events.
