No one ever said changing the world was going to be quick or easy, even in this high-stakes accountability era of No Child Left Behind. But at UIC's College of Education we have committed ourselves to the challenge for the long haul.

While it has become de rigueur for universities to claim to have an urban commitment, we have spent the past two decades building a pipeline of teachers, administrators, researchers, and policymakers that work with neighborhood schools most in need of high quality education. To accomplish this, we work closely with the communities we serve to address their expressed needs, and have intensified our efforts to recruit future educators from within these very communities.

By asking the tough questions and using data to hold ourselves accountable, we are constantly pushing ourselves to improve our service to urban communities in ways that very few universities do. Every lesson we've learned on this path challenges previously-held assumptions and teaches us anew how much there is to know and learn. And that can only help us raise the bar for the students we serve.
