Unpacking Identity Threats

The experiences outside of school, argues the College's Greg Larnell, impact the possibilities Black students imagine for themselves in the math classroom.  In his article "The Stuff of Stereotypes: Toward Unpacking Identity Threats amid African American Students’ Learning Experiences," Larnell argues math education needs to move beyond procedural, skill-driven lessons that have limited perceived applications.
