Edward directs the College's alumni relations efforts, donor relations, fundraising and corporate giving strategies.
Before coming to the College, Edward served as the Director of Institutional Advancement for Urban Prep Academies, beginning in 2007. Urban Prep is a nonprofit organization that operates the country’s first network of all male public charter high-schools: Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men—Bronzeville, Englewood and West Campuses. Urban Prep schools are the only public all-boys schools in the State of Illinois and their mission is to provide a high-quality comprehensive education that prepares young men for success in college.
While at Urban Prep, Edward’s responsibilities included, but were not limited to, development, creating corporate and community partnerships, managing the networks’ student recruitment efforts, and marketing. Before Urban Prep, Edward managed a privately owned 250-unit single-family residential apartment community in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to that, he managed a successful retail pilot program for Sony Electronics. There, within one fiscal year, Edward grossed $1 million in corporate I.T. sales.
Aside from his professional career obligations, Edward is an active member of several civic and social organizations: the National Eagle Scout Association, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, Masonic Order-Prince Hall Affiliated, and 100 Black Men of Chicago. While serving as an advocate for inner city youth, Edward has been recognized and honored by many for his achievements, including the Arch Bishop Lyke African-American Male Image Award, three time Chicago Public School commencement speaker, and the 2015 Chicago Defender Men of Excellence honoree.
Edward earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Fisk University and a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership and Organizational Change from Roosevelt University. He also completed additional studies at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Marketing and Fundraising for School Leaders.
