UIC College of Education - University of Illinois at Chicago

All applicants new to the University, including graduate and undergraduate candidates, must complete a two-part application process to be admitted both to UIC and to the College of Education. Current UIC students who wish to enter to the College of Education need to apply only to the College.

All application information for the University is available from the UIC Office of Admissions and Records. But the application process, deadlines and requirements for the College differ depending on which program you are interested in, and which semester you plan to begin your study. Admissions decisions are based on a variety of factors, including transcripts, college entrance exams, letters of recommendations, interviews, and essays. Check with the program you are interested in for specific application requirements.

* What is candidacy?

To complete the BA Program in Urban Education, students must be admitted to candidacy status in one of two concentrations - either Education in a Democratic Society or Elementary Education. Candidacy status is reserved for the final 60 hours of the BA program, and students can apply for candidacy after they have met all the requirements for each concentration. Generally, this occurs during the final semester of the sophomore year. Each concentration has its own eligibility requirements and deadlines for application submission.

** What is an Undeclared Major?

If you do not meet the requirements for candidacy, you must either remain an Undeclared Major in the College of Education, or apply for admission as an Undeclared Major if you are not already enrolled in the College. After you become eligible for candidacy, you can make the switch in the next admission review.

*** What are the requirements for international students?

International students can apply to and complete programs that lead to certification, but they must obtain U.S. citizenship within 10 years of  receiving their certification, otherwise their certification will be revoked.
