Policy Studies, M.Ed.
Degree Program
The Policy Studies Department offers a new concentration in Policy Studies within the M. Ed. program in Instructional Leadership. Focused on urban schooling, the concentration in Policy Studies allows students to develop expertise in a number of areas of their choosing. These areas include but are not limited to:
- Social foundations of urban education
- Educational leadership and school improvement
- Educational policy analysis
- Teacher leadership
- Social justice and education
Students construct a 32 credit hour program of study from a wide range of courses taught by nationally recognized scholars dedicated to urban school reform and policy analysis.
This new concentration has been designed to allow practicing educators to craft their own professional development program. In addition, it offers an excellent preparation for future doctoral-level work. Flexibility in selecting courses allows students to take courses from a wide range of offerings in Policy Studies and from any of the College of Education's departments, providing students an opportunity to work with a range of noted faculty, many with deep knowledge of the Chicago Public Schools and other urban school systems.
