Develop your career in urban higher education
This program is designed to prepare graduates to secure mid-level college and university administrative leadership positions that span the organization, whether in:
- Academic affairs
- Student affairs
- Research services
- Administrative operations
Such positions typically include directors, associate and assistant directors in:
- Residence life
- Student support offices

In addition to colleges, universities and higher education systems, the program prepares students to work in various educational services (e.g., tutoring and test preparation organizations); associations (e.g., American Hospital Association); privately owned businesses (e.g., Apple) and foundations that require post-secondary administrative knowledge and professional expertise.
Areas of Emphasis: Institutional Leadership and Research Heading link
Support your career path through the MEd Urban Higher Education’s areas of emphasis:
Leadership, Governance, Organization and Policy
The leadership emphasis will provide an excellent academic and practical foundation for those who seek an associate or assistant dean position in a university or college unit or an administrative position in higher education at the state level, or in private or nonprofit organizations that require higher education expertise.
Institutional Research for Decision Making
Coursework in Institutional Research for Decision Making builds off of the strengths of the college’s current Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics, and Assessment (MESA) program. Graduates with this area of emphasis will be prepared to take positions in college and university institutional research offices.
