Project LEAD (Leaders Enhancing outcomes for Adjudicated youth with Disabilities with intensive needs in urban settings) is a scholarship program that prepares educators to earn the LBS1 special education certification to improve outcomes for court-involved youth who receive special education services.

Applications are due October 1 for the Spring 2021 cohort. To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Certified to teach in Illinois (PEL) in general education middle grades or high school, in least one academic subject area
  • Interested in obtaining a MEd in special education
  • Interested in issues pertaining to court-involved youth with disabilities in urban settings

These info sessions focus on the LEAD scholarship, but we are also hosting info sessions for the M.Ed. in Special Ed program more generally.

Project LEAD is a collaboration between our Department of Special Education, the Jane Addams College of Social Work, Chicago Public Schools, and the Juvenile Justice Division of Cook County Juvenile Courts.
