Acting Dean Marc VanOverbeke

The University of Illinois Chicago College of Education is pleased to announce that Marc VanOverbeke has been appointed acting dean, effective July 3, 2026. In this role, he will lead the college while Kathryn Chval serves as interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at UIC.

A respected scholar and experienced academic leader, VanOverbeke brings a deep understanding of the college and its mission. He previously served as the College of Education’s associate dean for academic affairs for nine years and provided leadership as interim dean from 2020–21, guiding the college during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Since joining UIC in 2016, VanOverbeke has contributed to numerous university initiatives while advancing research focused on educational access, opportunity and policy. His leadership experience, collaborative approach and longstanding commitment to student success position him well to lead the college during this period of transition,” said Chval.
