James Pellegrino researches the thinking and learning of children and adults and the implications of cognitive research and theory for assessment and instructional practice.
He analyzes complex learning environments, including those incorporating information technology, with the goal of understanding the nature of student learnign and conditions that foster deep understanding. He has contributed to numerous books and journals and is co-director of the UIC Center for the Study of Learning, Instruction, and Teacher Development.
