As you explore these resources, please keep in mind that prospective and admitted students can stay in touch with the College of Education in a number of different ways including participating in an admitted student virtual event or requesting an individual virtual meeting with us. New Student Advising and Registration Information Heading link

To be certain you are getting off to a strong start both academically and socially, all new first-year and transfer students are required to complete UIC’s online orientation modules, placement tests, participate in a New Student Advising and Registration session, as well as participate in an New Student Orientation session. Through these modules and subsequent sessions, you will learn about campus resources, meet new and current UIC students, connect with our College of Education academic advising staff, and register for classes.

All new first-year students are required to complete UIC’s online orientation modules, placement tests, participate in a New Student Advising and Registration session, as well as participate in a New Student Orientation session. Below is a summary of the next steps you will be taking:

  • Complete Online Orientation Modules and Placement Tests: To complete required placement tests as well as the online orientation modules, visit my.uic.edu and click on the UIC Connect tab. During your online orientation modules, you will be asked which academic college you are a part of – please remember to choose the College of Education. Please see below for additional information on placement testing/assessment requirements:
  • New first-year students in College of Education are required to complete the Academic Writing and Math placement tests.
  • Students with prior knowledge of a foreign language, who plan to study the language at UIC, are required to complete a placement test for that language. All students who would like to enroll in Spanish must take the placement test regardless of prior knowledge.
  • Register for a New Student Advising and Registration Session: Once your placement tests and online orientation modules are complete, you will be eligible to register for a New Student Advising and Registration session. During this session, you will learn more about the College of Education, meet the Office for Student Success team, receive first semester course recommendations, and register for classes.
  • Register for a New Student Orientation Session: After you have completed your New Student Advising and Registration session, you will participate in a New Student Orientation session.
  • Additional Resources: We recommend reviewing the following resources for an overview of course selection prior to your New Student Advising and Registration session. Please note that you will discuss specific course recommendations with your advisor during your New Student Advising and Registration session and will then register for classes.
  • UIC General Education Requirements: https://catalog.uic.edu/ucat/degree-programs/general-education/ – All students must complete general education course work as one component of their degree requirements. We will review and discuss these requirements during New Student Advising and Registration.
    • uAchieve Degree Audit: You will be able to view your uAchieve Degree Audit under the Student tab in your my.uic.edu portal. You can use this audit as a guide for selecting classes.

New Transfer Students

All new transfer students are required to complete UIC’s online orientation modules, any necessary placement tests, participate in a New Student Advising and Registration session, as well as participate in a New Student Orientation session. Below is a summary of the next steps you will be taking:

  • Register for a New Student Advising and Registration Session: Once your placement tests and online orientation modules are complete, you will be eligible to register for a New Student Advising and Registration session.   • Register for a New Student Orientation Session: After you have completed your New Student Advising and Registration session, you will participate in a New Student Orientation session.

    • Transferology: https://transferology.com/ – This online tool will help you view program requirements, which courses transfer to UIC, and where a course fits into program requirements.
    • uAchieve Degree Audit: Once you have scheduled your New Student Advising and Registration session, we will review your transfer course work and you will be able to view your uAchieve Degree Audit under the Student tab in your my.uic.edu portal. You can use this audit as a guide when registering for classes. We will review and explain the Degree Audit during New Student Advising and Registration.

All readmitted students are required to complete UIC’s online orientation modules, any necessary placement tests, as well as participate in an individual advising session with their College of Education Academic Advisor. Below is a summary of the next steps you will be taking.

  • Complete Online Orientation Modules and Placement Tests: To complete required placement tests as well as the online orientation modules, visit my.uic.edu and click on the UIC Connect tab. During your online orientation modules, you will be asked which academic college you are a part of – please remember to choose the College of Education.
  • Review the College of Education Academic Advising Module: You will be invited to review a required online College of Education Academic Advising Module to learn more about the College of Education, our degree programs, and course planning.
  • Complete the Intake Questionnaire: In preparation for your individual advising session, you will be asked to complete a required Intake Questionnaire to help us learn more about you, your interests, and your academic goals. The Intake Questionnaire is located in iAdvise, which is available on the Advising tab of my.UIC.edu. Once you enter iAdvise, expand the menu located in the upper-left corner of the screen and click on “Intake” to access the questionnaire.
  • Schedule a Virtual Advising Session: After you have reviewed the College of Education Advising Module and submitted your Advising Intake Questionnaire, you will be able to schedule a virtual advising session with your dedicated College of Education Academic Advisor where we will discuss your degree requirements and explore course recommendations. You will schedule your virtual advising session by emailing us to edstudentsuccess@uic.edu.
  • Please see the resources below for additional guidance in course selection prior to your virtual advising session. During your advising session, an advisor will review your course selections and you will be able to register for courses.
