Equity and Excellence in Urban Higher Education Scholarship

The Equity and Excellence in Urban Higher Education Scholarship supports current students in the MEd Urban Higher Education program in the College of Education's Department of Educational Policy Studies.

Preference shall be given to students who have an expressed desire to improve higher education equity (e.g., past and present active efforts and feasible future professional plans help to confirm such commitment). Recipients must be currently enrolled students in the MEd Urban Higher Education program who are in good academic standing.

Applications to this scholarship are due on December 1. Students can expect to be notified around December 15 about scholarship decisions.

    Mission: The program develops equity-oriented and principled leaders in higher education who understand the urban context, foster racial justice, promote equity and diversity, and use research and theory to help higher education institutions and individuals within them thrive.

    Learning Outcomes
    • Analyze the role higher education organizations play in urban settings and describe the ways in which urban institutions reciprocally influence, interact with, and change cities.
    • Critically evaluate and analyze research and theory and apply this knowledge directly to equity-oriented and racially-just practices that contribute to student thriving in urban higher education.
    • Develop a knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods and their appropriate application in assessment and evaluation of programs, policies, and practices.
    • Apply knowledge of the foundations of higher education, including a basic knowledge of the history, politics, and structure of higher education to develop an informed position on current critical topics in the field.
    • Investigate and analyze problems impacting higher education and enact evidence-informed practices.
    • Share your thoughts about the mission, and learning outcomes of the MEd in Urban Higher Education program, which are outlined above.
    • Describe one example of something you have done to advance equity and excellence in education in the past.
    • Tell us what you hope to do to advance equity and excellence in urban higher education in the future.
